On April 14, 2011, the Shawnee Mission (KS) School District hosted a Secondary Summit for Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support. Schools from Shawnee Mission, North Kansas City, Missouri, and Reeds Spring, Missouri, attended as well as Missouri SW-PBS consultants from the Kansas City and Springfield areas. Presentations were given by Horizons Alternative School and Trailridge Middle School in Shawnee Mission as well as the North Kansas City district and Reeds Spring High School. An additional short presentation shared MO SW-PBS information including training and support provided to schools by MO SW-PBS, the PBIS Missouri website, and Summer Institute 2011. The summit was an informative evening of sharing successful systems, data, and practices and highlighting what different schools have done to gain staff and student support and buy-in. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Kansas schools! |

MO SW-PBS Summer Institute 2011 - Missouri SW-PBS: A Partner in School Success June 14-15, 2011 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia, Missouri.
We are currently at capacity with over 1,100 people registered.
Featured Speakers scheduled include:White House held a Conference on Bullying on March 9th. PBIS National Center Co-Director Dr George Sugai was an invited speaker at this event. His comments are heard beginning at minute 29.35 of this tape of the meetings. Additional resources regarding cyber-bullying can be found at the eSchool News website.
The 8th Annual Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS) Conference was held in Denver Colorado March 9-12th. Missouri SW-PBS personnel attended as well as presented sessions at this event, donated volunteer hours, networked with colleagues and collaborators from across the nation (and world), and attended APBS committee meetings. Additionally Wyman Elementary in Rolla, Missouri and Mountain Grove High School in Mountain Grove, Missouri received honors at the Second Annual PBIS Film Festival.

Over fifty preschool educators currently implementing Program-wide Positive Behavior Support attended the 2nd Annual Missouri SW-PBS Early Childhood Summit held on February 23, 2011 in Columbia, MO. The four hour networking event provided opportunities to learn, discuss and share ideas about teaching social skills, problem-solving with class-wide data, family involvement and maintaining developmentally appropriate practices with program-wide PBS. The participants enjoyed touring the Columbia Public Schools Title 1 Preschool facilities and hearing from guest speaker Dr. Becky Beckner, an Early Childhood Behavior Specialist with Columbia Public Schools. This annual event grew out of preschool educators requesting time to network and learn with other preschool educators implementing Program-Wide PBS, and is organized and facilitated by Regional SW-PBS Consultants. The 3rd Annual Early Childhood Summit will be held on February 22, 2012 in the Southwest region. |

Westran Elementary, Middle and High Schools are implementing SW-PBS. The district and school level work on the Hornet Way, the districtwide moniker for SW-PBS, was highlighted in the Moberly Monitor newspaper.
The US Department of Education (US DOE) held discussions regarding the alignment of Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and the individual with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA). The meetings were convened by Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, and the discussions were guided by Dr. Alexa Posny, Assistant Secretary, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services. Dr. Posny shared information regarding the vision of US DOE and policy objectives that serve to guide the processes:
