"The Missouri Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support (MO SW-PBS) consultants and University of Missouri Positive Behavior Support (MU SW-PBS) staff conducted a review of research-based sources that identified essential classroom practices. From these sources, MO SW-PBS selected the eight practices as being evidenced effective classroom strategies across multiple sources for instruction related to academics and social/behavioral skills.
A standardized curriculum for the eight essential classroom practices was developed by the MO SW-PBS Tier 2 consultants and MU PBS staff. Each of the eight is being presented through school/district coaches meetings held in RPDC centers. In addition, each of the eight will be available in condensed presentations known as mini-modules. The mini-modules are intended for coaches to share with their full staff during professional development trainings or staff meetings."
MO SW-PBS has developed the Classroom Walk Through and Brief Observation (CWTBO) process for use for by all schools. The foundation for content of the CWTBO was built upon a review of the substantial base of current research literature pertaining to effective classroom practices. This review of research led to the identification of 8 Classroom Essential Practices (information and training mini modules for each of these 8 Classroom Essential Practices are referenced below). A brief CWTBO PowerPoint has also been developed as a resource for PD purposes.
