Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS) is a proactive approach to put strategies in place for all children while building in support for those at risk for and/or those who receive special education services for behavior.

Partnerships

Missouri Schoolwide PBS (MO SW-PBS) is supported through an active partnership among the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), The University of Missouri PBS Center, and the 9 regional professional development centers in Missouri. These partnerships encourage active and consistent information, training opportunities, and consultation to schools and districts in our state. MO SW-PBS personnel may be contacted through the information provided in the Personnel Directory.

The MO SW-PBS staff and management team members also collaborate with the National PBIS Center. Through this association we are able to access and participate in a variety of training and research opportunities, and to communicate with other state PBS personnel across the U.S. Dr. Lori Newcomer and Dr. Tim Lewis (MO SW-PBS management team members) are recognized as national trainers by the PBIS Center. Dr. Lewis is also a partner in the National Center. You may access more information about the Center at their website: www.pbis.org.

MO SW-PBS collaborates with the national Center for The Advancement of Mental Health Practices in Schools, located at the University of Missouri.  The Center’s co-directors, Dr. Karen Weston and Dr. James Kohler, are recognized experts in mental health issues affecting children.  The collaboration of our two initiatives affords the opportunity to improve and expand our efforts related to proactive behavior, social skills, and mental health services that we may provide to children and staff.

The Columbia, Missouri Public School District (CPS) and the St. Louis, Missouri Special School District (SSD) employ SW-PBS facilitators on their staffs. The Missouri SW-PBS initiative appreciates the collaboration and working relationships that have been developed with these districts' facilitators. For more information related to SW-PBS in these districts, please visit their websites at www.columbia.k12.mo.us/staffdev/CPSPBS (CPS) and pbiscompendium.ssd.k12.mo.us (SSD).
